Chief Rabbi of Israel sends condolences to Charlie Kirk’s family

Rabbi Yosef said he had heard much about Kirk’s activism and regretted not having known him personally.

Rabbi David Yosef, the Sephardic Chief Rabbi of Israel, has written a letter of condolence to the family of American conservative activist Charlie Kirk, praising his legacy and expressing sorrow at not having met him personally.

“With deep sorrow and great pain, I received the devastating news of the murder of Charlie solely because he was a clear and unwavering voice of truth,” Rabbi Yosef wrote. “Charlie was a true friend of the Jewish people and of the state of Israel. His great deeds and noble character made him a remarkable figure. In his modest yet firm way, he always chose to stand by truth and justice.”

Addressing Kirk’s widow Erika and their two young children, the Chief Rabbi said, “It is hard for me to find words of comfort in such a difficult moment, a moment when the loss is felt at every instant. Yet the greatest consolation lies in the immense legacy Charlie left behind.”

Rabbi Yosef said he had heard much about Kirk’s activism and regretted not having known him personally. He condemned the killing, calling it “vile and cruel” and said it “deserves condemnation from every single person.”

“From here, in Jerusalem, we send you our condolences and seek to strengthen you in these painful times,” the letter continued. “You are not alone in your mourning; many among the Jewish people grieve with you, and remember Charlie as a man who devoted his full heart and soul to making the world a better and more just place.”

The Chief Rabbi concluded with a prayer for Kirk’s family: “May God grant you and your family the strength to overcome this great tragedy and to continue his legacy for future generations.”
