CNN wanted Twitter to ban Trump over his latest anti-CNN tweet. Twitter said no.
CNN failed to have President Donald Trump’s Twitter account suspended, the latest development in the ongoing spat between the broadcaster and the president.
CNN reported that Twitter said on Sunday that the company reviewed the anti-CNN tweet and deemed it to be in line with its guidelines.
The Saturday tweet features a WWE video edited to show Trump slamming down a man with a CNN logo on his face with the message: “#FraudNewsCNN #FNN,”
Twitter said it considered three factors: the political context of the conversation surrounding the tweet, the various ways it could be interpreted, and the lack of details in the tweet itself.
Trump’s tweet spread like wildfire across the internet. In six hours it received 185,000 retweets, over 300,000 likes and some 100,000 comments, according to CNN.
Twitter users joined Trump in calling CNN “fake news,” and some posted more violent images.
CNN accused Trump of engaging in “juvenile behavior far below the dignity of his office.”
This last tweet by Trump was the latest in a line of scandalous messages.
Last week, Trump lashed out at MSNBC co-hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski. He called Brzezinski “crazy” and Scarborough “psycho.”
Trump also claimed that he once denied to meet with Brezezinski because “she was bleeding badly from a face-lift.”
Bruce Brown, executive director of the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press, condemned the video as a “threat of physical violence against journalists.” He said Trump’s tweet was “beneath the office of the presidency.”
Trump brushed off criticism that he is not acting “presidential.”
“My use of social media is not Presidential – it’s MODERN DAY PRESIDENTIAL. Make America Great Again.
