Czechs cave to Palestinian demand to remove Jerusalem as Israeli capital from schoolbooks

Caving in to the Palestinian Authority, the Czech Republic ordered its schools to teach that Tel Aviv – not Jerusalem – is the capital of the State of Israel.

A demand by the Palestinian embassy in Prague that a school atlas naming Jerusalem as the Israeli capital be “corrected” was met with success.

“The ministry will resolutely demand a change of the given data,” the Czech education ministry stated last week in response to the grievance.

“The publisher, the Shocart company, will have to rewrite the data about the capital of Israel, otherwise the atlas will lose its certificate as an officially recognized school book, for the purchase of which schools can be granted a subsidy,” the daily Mlada fronta Dnes wrote on Monday.

Shocart apologized for the “mistake.”

“The data in the atlas will be corrected as of the New Year,” Klara Bila, spokeswoman for the education ministry, told Czech media, saying that Tel Aviv will now be labeled as the Israeli capital.

“The Czech Republic does not consider east Jerusalem a part of the State of Israel,” foreign ministry spokeswoman Irena Valentova asserted.

“The European Union member countries, including the Czech Republic, view Jerusalem as the future capital of both states, i.e. the State of Israel and the future State of Palestine,” she added.

‘No limit to Palestinian incitement’

In response, Israeli Foreign Ministry representative Emmanuel Nahshon said he and his colleagues are “working energetically with the relevant parties in the Czech government in order to cancel the perverse teaching.”

“There is no limit to Palestinian incitement, which doesn’t satisfy itself with poisoning the minds of young Palestinians, but also seeks to sow lies among the youth of the Czech Republic,”Nahshon declared.

Earlier this year, Czech Foreign Minister Lubomir Zaoralek, on a visit to Jerusalem, told a press conference that his country is finding it increasingly difficult to continue supporting Israel, pointing specifically to the Jewish communities in Judea and Samaria as well as in eastern Jerusalem as the main problem.
