Jam and chocolate is the order of the day for donuts that will be given to IDF soldiers serving throughout the Chanukah holiday season.

The Defense Ministry announced on Sunday that it had purchased 360,000 of these sweet treats to ground troops and commanders, as well as Air Force and Navy bases across the country.

The ministry said it also bought 16,000 packages of Chanukah candles, 30,700 tin menorahs and 200 large menorahs for the holiday, which is slated to begin on December 2 and end December 10.

Chanukah commemorates the rededication of the Holy Temple in Jerusalem following the Jewish victory over the Syrian-Greeks in 165 BCE.

Sufganiyot (donuts) and potato latkes (pancakes) are traditional Chanukah foods as the holiday celebrates the miracle of the oil that should have sufficed for one day but burned for eight when the Maccabees – the Jewish army – rededicated the Temple.
