Democratic Senator Fetterman praises Trump for hostage deal

Fetterman, one of the most outspoken pro-Israel voices in the Democratic Party, has consistently supported Israel’s right to defend itself.

Democratic Sen. John Fetterman of Pennsylvania congratulated President Donald Trump on Wednesday following the announcement that Israel and Hamas had agreed to the first phase of a U.S.-brokered peace plan to end the war in Gaza and secure the release of all hostages.

“I congratulate @POTUS on this historic peace plan that releases all the hostages. Now, enduring peace in the region is possible,” Fetterman wrote on X, adding that despite party differences, both he and the president share “an ironclad commitment to Israel and its people.”

Fetterman, one of the most outspoken pro-Israel voices in the Democratic Party, has consistently supported Israel’s right to defend itself since Hamas’ Oct. 7, 2023, massacre, in which terrorists murdered, raped, and kidnapped civilians.

Trump announced the agreement in a Truth Social post, saying, “I am very proud to announce that Israel and Hamas have both signed off on the first phase of our peace plan. This means that ALL of the hostages will be released very soon, and Israel will withdraw their troops to an agreed-upon line as the first steps toward a strong, durable, and everlasting peace.”

He thanked Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey for their role as mediators and wrote, “BLESSED ARE THE PEACEMAKERS!”

Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick joined others in suggesting that Trump should be considered for the Nobel Peace Prize.

Asked during a Fox News interview whether Trump deserves the prize, Fetterman said that bringing wars to an end aligns with its purpose.

He added that if Trump also ends the war in Ukraine by providing the country what it needs to defeat Russia, “I’ll be the Democrat leading the committee for his award.”

Fetterman’s remarks reflected rare bipartisan praise for Trump’s Middle East diplomacy as Israel prepares to implement the ceasefire deal.
