The Israel Defense Forces carried out strikes in central Tehran that killed Iranian leader Ali Larijani, along with senior commanders from the Basij, following intelligence identifying their locations, according to details released Tuesday, Arutz Sheva reported.

Israeli Military Intelligence received information overnight that Larijani was staying in an apartment in central Tehran.

After confirming the intelligence, the site was targeted with 20 munitions, destroying the building and killing him.

In a separate development, intelligence indicated that the leadership of the Basij, a paramilitary force affiliated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, had gathered elsewhere in central Tehran.

The force’s commander, his deputy, and 10 additional senior officials were reported to be meeting in a tent positioned between residential buildings to coordinate ongoing operations.

According to the information released, the Israel Defense Forces determined that the meeting involved senior figures directing activities against Iranian citizens.

The Basij has been described as responsible for repression, including human rights violations such as torture, rape, sexual violence, and the enforcement of aspects of Sharia law.

Ahead of the strike on the Basij leadership, a consultation was held between the head of the Israeli Military Intelligence Directorate and the commander of the Israeli Air Force. Once it was confirmed that the gathering included senior leadership, authorization was given to proceed with the strike.

The attack targeted the group at the meeting site, killing the commander, his deputy, and 10 other senior officials.

The strikes are part of a broader Israel Defense Forces campaign focused on weakening Iran’s governing system. The effort includes targeting command centers and actions against Basij-linked infrastructure, including attempts to dismantle roadblocks operated by the force.
