UN display of drawings by IDF soldier highlight demand for his return

In 2014, IDF Lieutenant Hadar Goldin was killed in Operation Protective Edge, during Israel’s war against Hamas. Today, his drawings are displayed in the UN as an urgent reminder to retrieve his body from the terror organization that holds it hostage.

A special exhibit featuring the drawings of IDF Lieutenant Hadar Goldin, who was killed during Operation Protective Edge and whose body is held by the Hamas terror organization, opened on Wednesday at the United Nations (UN) headquarters in New York.

The exhibit, entitled “The Final Peace,” will be on display throughout the upcoming General Assembly and is situated in a prominent place, ensuring it will be viewed by world leaders.

Goldin’s parents, Simcha and Lea, and his twin brother Tzur attended the exhibit’s opening and met with Israel’s Ambassador to the UN Danny Danon.

Goldin’s parents have demanded that the UN appoint an envoy to secure the release of their son’s remains, as he was killed during a UN-arranged ceasefire.

“Hadar was killed and kidnapped by despicable terrorists during a UN sponsored ceasefire,” Danon explained.

Leah Goldin called upon “the UN and the international community to take responsibility and ensure that Hadar is returned to Israel for a proper burial.”

“He was not only a brave soldier, but a talented artist taken before his time.  I will continue to work tirelessly for his return,” Danon vowed.

“Danon is working with representatives from various countries and UN officials to utilize the visit to the UN by the Goldin family for diplomatic meetings aimed at ensuring the return of the remains of Lieutenant Hadar Goldin and Staff Sergeant Oron Shaul for proper burial in Israel,” Israel’s mission to the UN stated.

The Hamas terror organization has recently rejected an Israeli offer that would see the return of Israeli civilians Avra Mangisto and Hisham Al-Sayed and the remains of IDF soldiers Goldin and Shaul held by Hamas in Gaza in exchange for the release of all Hamas terrorists captured by the IDF during Operation Protective Edge.

The prime minister’s coordinator for POWs and MIAs, Colonel (RES.) Lior Lotan, told the Herzliya Conference on Tuesday that Israel made two parallel offers through several channels to facilitate the return of the soldiers’ bodies and the civilians, but Hamas rejected both.

Shaul died in battle together with another six Golani soldiers in Shajaiya in 2014 when their armored personnel carrier was hit by an anti-tank rocket. His body was never recovered and is assumed to be held by Hamas.

Goldin was abducted by Hamas and killed during a battle with Hamas terrorists in Shajaiya. Two other IDF soldiers also died in the incident.
