Escalation ahead? US warns Americans to avoid northern Israel

A new U.S. travel advisory reflects growing concerns over expanding conflict beyond Iran.

A renewed U.S. travel advisory warning Americans against visiting parts of the Middle East has heightened concerns that regional tensions could escalate further, with northern Israel singled out as a particularly sensitive area amid the ongoing confrontation between Washington and Tehran.

In an updated advisory issued Friday, the U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem urged Americans to exercise increased caution as military activity continues across the region.

“Due to high tensions in the Middle East, the security environment remains complex with the potential for unforeseen escalation. We remind Americans in the region of the continued need for caution and encourage them to monitor the news for breaking developments,” the embassy said in a statement.

The advisory specifically warned that Americans “should not travel to Gaza, Northern Israel, and the Egyptian border except for the Taba crossing, and reconsider travel to/through the Middle East.”

The State Department also cautioned travelers that the rapidly evolving security situation could disrupt commercial aviation throughout the region.

“Americans traveling in or through the region should also check with their air carriers to make sure their flights are still scheduled,” the advisory said.

The warning comes as the United States has carried out nightly airstrikes against Iranian military infrastructure for seven consecutive nights following attacks on international shipping and continued tensions surrounding the Strait of Hormuz. Iran has responded by launching missile and drone attacks against U.S. military installations in several countries, including Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, and Jordan, significantly raising fears of a broader regional conflict.

The specific inclusion of northern Israel in the advisory is notable and may reflect concerns in Washington that the Iran-backed Hezbollah terrorist organization could become more directly involved if fighting continues to intensify. Israeli officials have repeatedly warned that Hezbollah remains Iran’s most heavily armed regional proxy, possessing a large arsenal of rockets and missiles capable of striking deep into Israeli territory.

Hebrew-language media have recently reported that Israeli defense officials believe Iran may seek to activate Hezbollah should the confrontation with the United States continue to escalate, although no large-scale attacks from Lebanon have materialized in recent days.
