Europe pours millions into Lebanon as Hezbollah rejects ceasefire

The European Union has approved an additional €100 million for the Lebanese Armed Forces, saying the funding is intended to strengthen the Lebanese state and reduce Hezbollah’s grip on southern Lebanon.

EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said the goal is to help Lebanon establish a monopoly on weapons and disarm non-state actors such as Hezbollah. The new package brings total EU military support for Lebanon to €182 million.

The announcement comes as Hezbollah openly rejected a US-backed ceasefire proposal that would require the terror group to withdraw from southern Lebanon and disarm. Hezbollah leader Naim Qassem dismissed the plan and vowed that the “resistance” would continue, underscoring the growing challenge facing efforts to stabilize Israel’s northern border.
