European human rights group demands British press not reveal when terrorists are Muslim

In what appears to be an effort to whitewash Islamic terrorism, the European Commission against Racism and Intolerance has instructed that the British media refrain from reporting that a terrorist is Muslim.

The European Commission against Racism and Intolerance (ECRI) has demanded from the British press that it not report when terrorists are Muslim, the UK’s Daily Mail reported Thursday.

This recommendation is of one of 23 submitted to the British government on how to run the media during a time of crisis.

The directive is meant to curb supposed ‘ intolerance and hate speech’ which are allegedly the result of news reports tying Muslims to Islamic terrorism.

The 83-page report by the ECRI said there had been an increase in hate speech and racist violence in Britain between March 2009 and March 2016, supposedly also in light of the advent of the Islamic State (ISIS) terror group and multiple Islamic terror attacks in the continent.

ECRI Chair Christian Ahlund said that “it is no coincidence that racist violence is on the rise in the UK at the same time as we see worrying examples of intolerance and hate speech in the newspapers, online and even among politicians.”

UK ministers firmly rebutted the demands, telling the body: ‘The Government is committed to a free and open press and does not interfere with what the press does and does not publish, as long as the press abides by the law.”

The report comes after multiple terror atrocities by Muslim terrorists across Paris, Brussels, Munich and other German cities over the last year. Over the same period, there have been no major terror attacks in Britain.

The ECRI regularly assesses incidents of racism, xenophobia, anti-Semitism and intolerance across the EU’s 28 member states.
