Various Palestinian terror factions are competing with each other to take credit for the latest deadly terror attack in Jerusalem.

One of the terrorists who participated in the attack at Jerusalem’s Damascus Gate on Friday in which Border Policewoman Hadas Malka was murdered was a member of the Fatah party.

The Fatah party, led by Palestinian Authority (PA) head Mahmoud Abbas,  condemned the shooting deaths of the three terrorists. Completely ignoring the circumstances of the attack, Fatah published bereavement notices for the perpetrators on its official Facebook accounts.

A Facebook post by Fatah’s Deir Abu Mash’al branch, the town from which the terrorists came, claims that one of the terrorists, Osama Ahmad ‘Atta, belonged to Fatah.

“The Fatah movement in Deir Abu Mash’al in the Ramallah and Al-Birah region mourns, with great pride, its martyr hero Osama Ahmad Atta… perpetrator of the heroic operation at Bab Al-Amoud [Damascus Gate]…,” the post read, according to the Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI).

The Islamic State (ISIS), the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) and Hamas have also claimed responsibility for the attack.

Hamas political bureau member Izzat Al-Rishq denied that there was any connection between the terrorists and ISIS, stating that two of the terrorists belonged to the PFLP and one to Hamas. It is the “Occupation,” he wrote, that is behind the linking of ISIS to the attack – and the attack was carried out at the initiative of a few individuals and in reaction to the “crimes of the Occupation and the profaning of Al-Aqsa.”

The official Fatah website published a clarification from Atta’s relatives, saying that although the family honored all the delegations that had come to pay tribute to the “martyr,”  including the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), as for representatives claiming he was one of their groups’ members – “we informed them that our martyr son Osama is a Fatah member.”

It remains unclear with which faction the terrorist had been affiliated.
