The FBI and local police are investigating threats made against a Jewish day school located in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Greensboro police and the FBI are investigating a threat letter against the Beth David Synagogue and B’nai Shalom Day School. The letter was delivered Monday afternoon, and school administrators decided to end classes early on Monday, FOX8 reported. The school remained closed Tuesday as a safety precaution,  GPD Public Information Officer Susan Danielsen stated.

The nature of the threat or the identity of the threatening party or parties were not disclosed.

“A threat was received by Beth David Synagogue and B’nai Shalom Day School yesterday. We alerted authorities immediately and met with local law enforcement. All of our Jewish community institutions remain vigilant in taking special precautions to ensure the safety of our staff members, our students and all community members,” Marilyn Forman, executive director of the Greensboro Jewish Federation, stated in a press release Tuesday.

“This is an ongoing investigation and we are therefore not able to comment on the investigation. The Greensboro Jewish Federation convened all of our Jewish community institutions today to meet with law enforcement personnel. We are working closely with the Greensboro Police Department, FBI and the Department of Homeland Security to do everything in our power to ensure the safety of our community.” She thanked the law enforcement agencies for their efforts.

While saying it was “not appropriate to discuss specific security measures” taken by the threatened Jewish institutions,  she said that “if any specific and credible threats are determined, we will communicate this.”

She added that they have received  many messages of support and encouragement from area churches and other community institutions, and that they were appreciative of them.

“The FBI is assisting our law enforcement partners at the Greensboro Police Department investigating a letter sent to a school in Greensboro that included racially charged language. The FBI offers resources, forensic expertise, and experience in identification and proof of whether or not bias-based motivations are present,” stated Shelley Lynch, a spokesperson for the FBI.
