The Federal Bureau of Investigation is investigating former National Counterterrorism Center Director Joe Kent over allegations he leaked classified information, according to multiple media reports.

The probe is said to have started months ago, before Kent resigned from the Trump administration earlier this week.

On Tuesday, Kent penned a letter to President Donald Trump, tendering his resignation.

In the letter, Kent objected to the Iran war, criticizing the administration’s handling of the decision-making process prior to the start of the conflict and accusing the White House of allowing Israel to determine American foreign policy.

“I cannot in good conscience support the ongoing war in Iran. Iran posed no imminent threat to our nation, and it is clear that we started this war due to pressure from Israel and its powerful American lobby,” Kent wrote on his X account on Tuesday.

The White House mocked Kent’s claims that Trump allowed Israel to determine American policy regarding Iran, calling it “insulting and laughable.”

On Wednesday, Kent appeared on far-right podcaster Tucker Carlson’s show, reiterating his criticism of the administration’s decision to strike Iran while also promoting conspiracy theories regarding the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk and the attempted assassination of Trump in 2024.

“When one of President Trump’s closest advisers, who is vocally advocating for us not to go to war with Iran and for us to rethink, at least, our relationship with the Israelis, and then he’s suddenly publicly assassinated and we are not allowed to ask any questions about that,” Kent said.

“It’s a data point. It’s a data point that we need to look into.”
