For the first time since the October 7 Hamas massacre, the synagogue of Kibbutz Be’eri held a circumcision (brit milah) on Tuesday, marking a moment of life and resilience in a place once overcome by horror.

Moran and Itay Shabi, who survived the massacre, returned to the site of their trauma to celebrate the birth of their son, Bar Shavit.

On that devastating day, the couple had fled their safe room with their children as smoke filled the air and terrorists tried to break down the door.

They hid for hours in the trees before being rescued by IDF forces.

“Our son is named Bar Shavit Shabi: Bar, in memory of Moran’s parents, Yuval and Maayan Bar, who were murdered that day, and Shavit, for the IDF soldier who rescued us,” Itay said.

“On October 7, they took everything. We chose life.”

The soldier, a Shayetet 13 naval commando, was honored by holding the baby during the ceremony.

“We’re proud to bring the first brit milah back to Be’eri’s synagogue,” Itay added, “and even prouder to raise the next generation of victory.”
