Segal: “No stories coming out of Gaza are factual. There are no foreign journalists in Gaza; all accounts coming out of there essentially pass through the Hamas filter.”

Former spokesman for the Gaza Humanitarian Fund, Shahar Segal, told Kan Reshet Bet that Hamas and the United Nations, not Israel, are responsible if there is mass hunger in Gaza.
He also disputed the claims of starvation, citing the fact that there are no independent journalists in the Gaza Strip and that news agencies rely on the testimony of Hamas-affiliated Gaza authorities.
Segal said, “No stories coming out of Gaza are factual. There are no foreign journalists in Gaza; all accounts coming out of there essentially pass through the Hamas filter. I wouldn’t say there’s no hunger — I’m just saying we need to put it in perspective.”
He went on to say that the main problem is the bottleneck of aid trucks not finding their way into Gaza because of the UN’s refusal to allow the IDF to distribute the aid, given their bias against Israel’s military.
“To ensure food security for Gaza’s residents, around 100 trucks a day need to go to Gaza. The foundation is bringing in about 50 trucks, but an additional 50 are waiting in UN warehouses. The UN refuses to distribute the food because it won’t allow the IDF to secure the convoys and is demanding a cease-fire.”
Segal added that while the UN is quick to blame Israel for the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, the body is withholding funding for food and other essential items.
He explained that it is Hamas that is using hunger as a strategy, because having the power to distribute the food means that the terror group can continue to control the Gaza population.
“This situation ran into a very efficient Hamas influence machine, a complete refusal on the part of the UN to cooperate, and tragedies that occurred not at the distribution points, but on the way to the distribution points,” he said.
