A senior United Nations official is under growing pressure to resign her position over comments she made at a recent conference in Doha, Qatar.

On Saturday, UN Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese remotely addressed the Al Jazeera Forum, which featured representatives from the Hamas terror organization and the Iranian government.

During her speech, Albanese declared the State of Israel to be the “common enemy” of humanity.

“We as a humanity now have a common enemy.”

Days later, the watchdog group Combat Antisemitism Movement (CAM) called for Albanese to be dismissed from her position in the UN.

“To declare the world’s only Jewish state a ‘common enemy of humanity’ is not human rights advocacy,” CAM’s director of European affairs Shannon Seban wrote to the UN Human Rights Council.

“It is the language of collective demonization, and it echoes some of the darkest chapters in modern history.”

“When a Special Rapporteur abandons objectivity and adopts the vocabulary of ideological warfare, the damage extends far beyond diplomatic discourse. It undermines the credibility of the Human Rights Council itself and fuels hostility toward Jewish communities worldwide.”

A second organization, UN Watch, joined in calling for Albanese’s removal.

On Wednesday, France announced that it will push for the UN Human Rights Council to fire Albanese during its upcoming session, slated to be held on February 23.

“She presents herself as a UN independent expert, yet she is neither an expert nor independent—she is a political activist who stirs up hate,” French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot told the French parliament.

Albanese’s comments “target not the Israeli government, whose policies can be criticized, but Israel as a people and as a nation, which is absolutely unacceptable,” he continued.

Hillel Neuer, Executive Director of UN Watch, praised France’s decision.

“France’s bold call for Francesca Albanese’s resignation is a crucial step toward restoring integrity to the UN human rights system.”

“For too long, Albanese has abused her position to spew Goebbels-like demonology against Israel, inciting hatred and legitimizing terrorism under the guise of human rights advocacy. She has disgraced the world body and betrayed the very people she claims to defend.”
