Freed hostage twin brothers give Trump a mezuzah from Kfar Aza

Gali and Ziv Berman, the teenage twins from Kibbutz Kfar Aza who were abducted from their home during the October 7 attack and were recently freed had a special gift for US President Donald Trump.

Joining a delegation of 17 freed hostages on Thursday, the Berman twins are presenting Trump with a mezuzah from Gali’s room in the Young Generation neighborhood of Kfar Aza.

Their home was one of the many structures burned and destroyed in the assault. When the twins revisited the ruins last week, they found the mezuzah intact despite the fire that consumed the rest of the house.

The siblings said their trip to Washington is both an expression of gratitude and a reminder of unfinished work.

“We came to thank the President of the United States for the many actions he took toward our release,” they said. At the same time, they stressed that the wider mission continues. “There are three deceased hostages still being held in Gaza. Until everyone returns, we cannot begin our rehabilitation as a society and as a nation.”

Their gift will be accompanied by a letter addressed to President Trump. The note, titled “A Gift from Kfar Aza – In Honor of the President of the United States, Donald J. Trump,” recounts how the mezuzah was saved from their destroyed home and explains why it is being offered as a token of appreciation.

“This mezuzah was lovingly removed from the door of Gali’s room in our home in Kibbutz Kfar Aza, a community that endured unspeakable horrors on October 7, 2023,” it reads. “The mezuzah survived. Gali survived. And now, this sacred item is presented to you, for helping to save his life.”

The letter concludes with a message of gratitude and hope, describing the mezuzah as “a small yet powerful symbol of protection and faith,” and as a gesture recognizing the president’s involvement in efforts to bring the hostages home.
