Germany arrests 3 armed Hamas members accused of planning to target Jewish or Israeli institutions

German federal prosecutors announced the arrest of three suspected Hamas terrorists accused of plotting attacks against Jewish and Israeli institutions in Germany.

Authorities say the men had been amassing weapons and ammunition for months in preparation for coordinated strikes.

The suspects—identified only as Abed Al G., Wael F. M., and Ahmad I.—were detained in Berlin on Tuesday, a day before Yom Kippur, the holiest day on the Jewish calendar.

Two are German citizens, while the third was born in Lebanon.

“Since at least the summer of 2025,” prosecutors said in a statement, the three “have been involved in procuring firearms and ammunition” on behalf of Hamas.

During the arrests and subsequent searches in Berlin, Leipzig, and Oberhausen, police recovered an AK-47 assault rifle, multiple pistols, and a significant quantity of ammunition.

Authorities allege the weapons were intended for assassination-style attacks against Jewish and Israeli sites in Germany.

The men now face charges of preparing a serious act of violence endangering the state and membership in a foreign terrorist organization.

They are expected to appear before a federal judge on Thursday.

German media outlets reported that the arrests occurred during a suspected weapons handover in the capital.

Hamas, which governs Gaza and is designated as a terrorist organization by the European Union, has denied involvement.

In a statement, the group said the allegations were “baseless” and aimed at “undermining the German people’s sympathy for the Palestinian people.”

Hamas also claimed it limits its activities to Palestinian territories.

The case comes just months after four other alleged Hamas terrorists went on trial in Berlin for planning attacks against Jewish targets elsewhere in Europe.

German authorities emphasized that the swift intervention in this case likely thwarted a potential terror attack on German soil.
