Governments around the world are urging their citizens to leave Iran immediately as unrest spreads nationwide, air travel collapses, and fears grow of a broader regional escalation

The U.S. Virtual Embassy Iran issued a stark warning to American citizens still in Iran, instructing them to depart without delay and not to rely on U.S. government assistance. “Leave Iran now. Have a plan for departing Iran that does not rely on U.S. government help,” the embassy said in a notice posted on its website.

The advisory suggested that U.S. citizens consider overland routes into Armenia or Turkey if it is safe to do so. For those unable to leave immediately, the embassy advised remaining indoors and preparing for extended disruption.

“If you cannot leave, find a secure location within your residence or another safe building. Have a supply of food, water, medications, and other essential items,” the notice said.

Canada issued a similar warning, telling its citizens to leave Iran immediately if it can be done safely.

Canadian authorities noted that while many commercial flights have been suspended, land border crossings into Armenia and Turkey remain open, and Canadian passport holders do not require visas to enter either country.

French media outlets reported that Paris has withdrawn nonessential diplomatic staff from its embassy in Tehran amid heightened regional tensions.

India on Wednesday joined the growing list of countries advising evacuation.

In an advisory issued by the government of India, authorities urged Indian nationals in Iran, including students, pilgrims, businesspeople, and tourists, to leave by any available means of transport, including commercial flights, citing the rapidly evolving security situation.

Travel options, however, have become increasingly limited. Major international airlines, including Emirates, Qatar Airways, and Turkish Airlines, have canceled dozens of flights to and from Iran over the past several days as protests and instability intensify.

Saudi outlet Al Hadath reported that flights between Iran and Iraq have also been suspended.

The evacuation warnings come as the risk of direct U.S. military involvement appears to be rising.

President Donald Trump has repeatedly warned that continued violence against protesters could trigger American strikes on regime targets and has suggested that military options are actively being considered.

U.S. officials have also acknowledged heightened readiness across the region, raising concerns that any escalation involving Iran could quickly expand beyond its borders.

Those fears have been reinforced by reports of growing military movements across the Middle East. According to Reuters, some U.S. military personnel were instructed to depart the U.S. military’s Al Udeid Air Base by Wednesday evening, a step viewed as precautionary amid the deteriorating security environment.

As diplomatic staff are withdrawn, flights are grounded, and military postures harden, governments have emphasized that foreign nationals remaining in Iran should not expect evacuation assistance and should leave while overland routes remain open, warning that the window to do so may narrow rapidly if regional conflict expands.
