Greta Thunberg’s ‘selfie yacht’ intercepted by Israeli navy

A Gaza-bound ship with Greta Thunberg aboard was intercepted by the Israel Navy; activists given bottled water, sandwiches.

Israel Navy forces intercepted a Gaza-bound flotilla carrying Greta Thunberg and other pro-Palestinian activists, with the ship being towed to the port of Ashdod.

“Greta Thunberg is currently on her way to Israel, safe and in good spirits,” Israel’s Foreign Ministry wrote in a statement on X, showing the Swedish former climate activist – who has since pivoted to anti-Israel activism – smiling in a lifejacket.

“All the passengers of the ‘selfie yacht’ are safe and unharmed. They were provided with sandwiches and water. The show is over,” the Foreign Ministry added in a separate tweet.

In a video posted to the social media platform, some of the activists – including French MP Rima Hassan – were seen accepting food and bottled water from Israel Navy commandos.

Hassan was deported from Israel in February after landing at Ben-Gurion Airport. At the time, Interior Minister Moshe Arbel said Hassan would not be permitted to enter Israel because she supports the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement and has called Israel an apartheid state.

The British-flagged ship, the Madleen, was “swiftly” taken over by the Israel Navy in the early hours of Monday morning as it approached Israel’s territorial waters and neared the Gaza Strip, Defense Minister Israel Katz said in a statement.

Katz added that once Thunberg the others aboard the boat, who claimed to be acting in support of Gazans, reach Israel, they will be shown a video of Hamas atrocities committed on October 7, 2023.

“It’s appropriate that Greta [Thunberg] the antisemite and her Hamas-supporting friends should see exactly who is the terror group Hamas that they support and act on behalf of, what atrocious acts they carried out on women, the elderly and kids, and who Israel is fighting for its defense against,” Katz said.

The activists then will be deported from Israel, though it’s unclear how long they will be detained in Israel.

The statement added that the small amount of aid onboard the ship would be transferred to Gaza.
