Haley warns ‘US will be taking names’ of countries voting against Trump on Jerusalem

The US will take note of countries that undermine its choices at the UN, Ambassador Haley declared.

Following Monday’s US veto of a United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolution calling for the withdrawal of President Donald Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, the Palestinians are bringing a new vote on the same measure to the General Assembly on Thursday.

Since the Palestinian Authority (PA) is a non-member observer state at the world body rather than a full UN member, a bloc of countries led by Turkey and Bolivia will submit the resolution on behalf of the Palestinians.

The measure is expected to pass due to the Arab and Muslim majority in the General Assembly, but would be merely symbolic move and have no practical implications for Israel or the US.

“At the UN we’re always asked to do more and give more. So, when we make a decision, at the will of the American people, about where to locate OUR embassy, we don’t expect those we’ve helped to target us,” Haley tweeted.

“On Thursday there’ll be a vote criticizing our choice. The US will be taking names,” Haley warned.

Bloomberg reported that Haley told her fellow UN ambassadors that Trump is keeping close watch of the vote.

In a letter to a number of countries, including key US allies, Haley said that “the president will be watching this vote carefully and has requested I report back on those countries who voted against us. We will take note of each and every vote on this issue.”

The letter was shared with Bloomberg News by one UN ambassador and confirmed by three others. The diplomats said Haley’s letter would have little impact on their vote.
