Hamas claimed it had located the remains during searches in the Shijaiyah neighborhood of Gaza City.
The Israel Defense Forces and the Shin Bet security agency announced Wednesday evening that representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross had arrived at a designated meeting point in northern Gaza to receive the body of an Israeli hostage.
According to the statement, the remains were transferred to Israeli authorities for identification.
The name of the fallen hostage has not yet been publicly released.
Earlier in the day, Hamas claimed it had located the remains during searches in the Shijaiyah neighborhood of Gaza City, an area that has seen heavy fighting and extensive Israeli operations.
The group said the body would be handed over at 9:00 p.m. local time, and coordination for the transfer was facilitated through the Red Cross.
This latest recovery comes one day after the return of the body of Staff Sgt. Itay Chen, a 19-year-old American-Israeli soldier, whose remains were transferred to Israel on Tuesday.
Chen, a dual U.S.-Israeli citizen, had been missing since October 7 and was previously declared killed in action.
Israeli officials say efforts remain ongoing to locate and bring home the bodies of all remaining hostages still held in Gaza.
The government stated that families of the fallen are being notified as identifications are confirmed.
