Hamas terrorists launched a barrage of rockets and mortar fire from the Gaza Strip at Israeli communities in the south in the wee hours of Wednesday morning.

No reports of people injured or damage done to property were submitted.

The offensive was yet another chapter in the unfolding saga of Israeli-Palestinian conflict in Gaza that has repeatedly been kept alive by Hamas.

A Hamas vehicle that was registered with a Hamas terrorist commander and thought to be “intensively involved” in the flying of “fire kites” and explosive balloons into Israel with the goal of setting huge fires was destroyed by an IDF drone late Tuesday night.

At the time the car was destroyed there was no one in it.

In another drone operation, a vehicle that was in the service of the terrorist cadres responsible for incendiary balloons and kites was destroyed.

On Tuesday, terrorist groups, among them Hamas, organized a fresh wave of firebomb-laden kites and balloons.

“Moments ago,” the IDF spokesman announced on twitter, “an IDF aircraft targeted a vehicle used by a group of Palestinians who launched arson balloons from the northern Gaza Strip into Israeli territory, as well as an observation post from which the balloons were launched.”

One Palestinian citizen was slightly injured from the blowing up of the vehicle, which took part in Nuseirat, a town in central Gaza, the Palestinian Information Center said.

In all 17 projectiles were reportedly fired at targets in Gaza, the PIC said.

In the Hof Ashkelon, Eshkol and Sha’ar Hanegev precincts alert sirens were activated prompting Israelis in the thousands to run to safe zones and shelters.

According to the IDF the Iron Dome anti-projectile system identified three rockets or mortar shells headed for populated areas and shot them down.

The Education Ministry gave no special orders regarding the closure of schools, which implied that the routine would be maintained and children would continue to go to school as usual.
