A Hamas terrorist who infamously bragged to his parents about murdering Israelis during the October 7, 2023, massacre was reportedly killed in an airstrike in central Gaza on Thursday, according to Hebrew media reports.
The Israel Defense Forces have not confirmed the strike or his death.
The man was identified as Mahmoud Afana. Reports said he was killed in Deir al-Balah.
His chilling phone call to his family, released by Israel weeks after the massacre, shocked the international community and was played during a United Nations Security Council session.
In the recording, Afana told his parents he had entered Kibbutz Mefalsim near the Gaza border and personally murdered 10 Jews.
“Look how many I killed with my own hands! Your son killed Jews!” he declared. He boasted to his mother: “Mom, your son is a hero.”
Afana said he was calling from the phone of a Jewish woman he had just murdered, telling his parents to check WhatsApp for documentation of his killings.
His father addressed him by name, while his mother praised him: “Oh my son, may God protect you.” She added: “May God bring you back safely.”
The terrorist repeated his claim throughout the call: “Dad, 10 with my own hands. I’m inside Mefalsim, Dad, I killed 10. Their blood is on my hands. Give me Mom.”
Afana’s brother then joined the conversation, asking if it was true. “Yes, I killed 10, I swear,” Afana replied.
When asked if he was in Zikim, Afana corrected him: “I’m in Mefalsim, not in Zikim. I’m the first to enter, under the protection and with help of Allah. Raise up your head, Dad.”
His brother urged him to return to Gaza, but Afana refused. “Return? There’s no return. It’s either death or victory. How can I return? Open WhatsApp, see how many are dead. How I killed them with my own hands.”
