Following Trump’s joint press conference with Abbas and his call to root out terrorism, Hamas accused the US president of partaking in a “conspiracy against the Palestinian resistance.”
The Hamas terror organization, in control of the Gaza Strip, accused President Donald Trump of taking part in a conspiracy against the Palestinian “resistance” following the US leader’s joint press conference in Washington Wednesday with Palestinian Authority (PA) Chairman Mahmoud Abbas.
During the press conference, Trump said that “we must continue to build our partnership with the Palestinian security forces to counter and defeat terrorism,” implying that the US, Israel and the PA would work to rein in and defeat Islamic terrorist groups like Hamas.
“The White House statement about training PA forces to confront ‘terrorism’ indicates a conspiracy against the Palestinian resistance,” Hamas wrote on its Twitter account, Times of Israel reported.
Trump also took the opportunity to praise the PA’s security coordination with Israel and the IDF. “They get along unbelievably well,” he said.
“I had meetings, and at these meetings I was actually very impressed and somewhat surprised at how well they get along,” Trump continued. “They work together beautifully. But there cannot be lasting peace unless the Palestinian leaders speak in a unified voice against incitement to violate — and violence and hate.”
“There’s such hatred. But hopefully there won’t be such hatred for very long. All children of God must be taught to value and respect human life, and condemn all of those who target the innocent.”
