Hapless Israeli pizza scooter thief kept bumping into policemen

To the misfortune of the pizza scooter thief on the loose, the owner of the home where he was seeking refuge was also a member of the police force.

A 24-year-old man from northern Israel reportedly is being charged with stealing a mini-bike from a pizza shop in Tiberias last week after he hadn’t realized that he was asking directions from a policewoman who was wearing civilian clothing.

An indictment was issued Monday, accusing the man of theft of the vehicle, driving without a license and compulsory auto insurance, breaking and entering, leveling a threat, and possession of a knife, reports Channel 13 News.

He got into trouble when, during his escape, he asked for directions from a woman who turned out to be an off-duty police officer.

Even more problematic for the runaway motorcyclist was that the police officer apparently knew the owners of the pizzeria, says the TV report, and suspected that something was wrong. Upon looking into the matter, she reportedly learned that, in fact, the pizza shop had reported that a mini-bike had been stolen.

The accused then allegedly tried to break into a home, saying that “police are running after him,” says the TV report, but again to the misfortune of the biker on the loose, the owner of the home where he was seeking refuge was also a member of the police force.

The homeowner policeman says the assailant threatened to cause him harm if he turned him in, and that in a search of the man’s body, he found a knife. The mini-bike thief was identified as 24-years-old, a resident of Tur’an, between Haifa and Tiberias.
