Chanukah starts tonight, the 25th of Kislev, according to the Hebrew calendar.
It celebrates the re-dedication of the Second Temple in Jerusalem during the Maccabean Revolt from 167 to 160 B.C.E.
As you light the candles, play dreidel with your family, enjoy latkes and jelly donuts, and exchange gifts, take a moment also to reflect on the sacrifices made to bring the Jewish people to this point, where they are once again a free people in their ancient land.
