The torrential rains in Israel over the weekend have caused damage around the country but have also exposed of a string of explosive charges on the road to the Palestinian city of Tul Karem.

Israel’s Ynet news reported Saturday that the Palestinian security service found the explosives on a road connecting the Palestinian villages of Attil and Illar in Area A, which is under full Palestinian Authority (PA) control.

The road is used by the Palestinians, and occasionally by the IDF. Israeli civilians are prohibited from entering Area A.

A Palestinian force arrived at the scene and uncovered 12 improvised explosive devices (IED). Each barrel bomb was 40 cm in length and 30 cm in diameter and weighed 20-30 kg, a powerful explosive charge.

The Palestinians dismantled the bombs and have launched an investigation to discover who planted the bombs.

It is unclear when the bombs were planted or for whom they were meant. A source told Ynet that findings at the scene indicated the explosives were planted a long time ago.
