Father kills 8 children in one of deadliest US mass shootings in years
By Word Israel News Staff
A domestic dispute in Shreveport, Louisiana, turned into a massacre when 31-year-old Shamar Elkins murdered eight children, most of them his own, in an attack that unfolded across two homes. The young victims, all between early childhood and the preteen years, were caught in a brutal act of violence inside what should have been their safest place.
Authorities say Elkins first shot a woman before driving to a nearby house, where the majority of the killings took place. Some children tried to escape the gunfire — one was later found dead on the roof, while another survived after jumping to flee. Two women, including his wife, were left fighting for their lives.
Elkins was killed following a police chase. Investigators believe the shooting was rooted in a family breakdown, with reports indicating the couple had been in the process of separating. The scale of the tragedy has left the community stunned, with officials describing it as one of the darkest days in the city’s history.
