Terrorists in Gaza fired a rocket at Israel’s civilian population early Thursday morning. The rocket landed in an open area near the border fence with Gaza in the Eshkol Regional Council of the Western Negev, causing no damage or injuries.
Because of the location of the explosion, warning sirens did not go off.
In response, the Israeli Air Force (IAF) attacked a Hamas terror target in the center of the Gaza Strip. The IDF reported accurate hits. The target was a Hamas munitions production plant.
No group claimed responsibility for the attack.
Israel holds Gaza’s Hamas rulers responsible for all attacks emanating from the territory under its control.
Israel will “not tolerate any attempt to undermine the security of Southern Israel. The Hamas terror organization is responsible for today’s attack against Israel,” IDF Spokesman Lt. Col. Peter Lerner stated.
The past months have seen a sharp increase in rocket attacks from Gaza, and eight rockets had been fired from Gaza since the beginning of the year. Several more rockets were fired by terrorists but fell short within the Strip.
Rocket fire over recent months has mostly been the work of an Islamic faction affiliated with the Islamic State (ISIS) terror organization operating out of Gaza.
