IDF bombs Beirut after Hezbollah attacks on northern Israel

Israel strikes Hezbollah stronghold of Dahieh near Beirut as ceasefire in Lebanon edges towards collapse.

By World Israel News Staff

The IDF carried out airstrikes Sunday in Beirut’s southern suburbs, targeting Hezbollah facilities in the Dahieh district after the terror group fired at towns in northern Israel.

The strikes hit one of Hezbollah’s most important urban strongholds and marked another escalation in the renewed fighting between Israel and the Iran-backed group, despite continuing efforts by the US and regional mediators to limit the conflict.

“In accordance with the directive of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz, the IDF has just struck terrorist headquarters in the Dahieh district of Beirut, in response to Hezbollah’s firing at Israeli territory,” Netanyahu and Katz said in a joint statement.

The Israeli military said the targets were Hezbollah sites in the densely populated southern suburbs of the Lebanese capital.

According to preliminary reports in the Lebanese media, two people were killed and 11 wounded in the attack, which is said to have targeted an apartment in a residential building used by Hezbollah as a command and control center.

The strikes followed Hezbollah rocket fire toward northern Israel, part of a broader series of exchanges that have increasingly strained the ceasefire understandings reached in recent weeks.

Israeli officials have accused Hezbollah of repeatedly violating the ceasefire and using Lebanese territory to continue attacks on Israeli communities and military positions.

According to a report published by the Saudi Al-Hadath television channel, Israel notified the United States prior to the Dahieh strike.

Iran threatened to respond to the IDF strikes, which it dubbed “Netanyahu’s gamble.”

“He is playing with the lion’s tail,” wrote the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps-linked Raja News site.

Lebanese media outlets reported an additional IDF strike in the Nabatieh district in southern Lebanon.

Six fatalities were reported in the Nabatieh area strikes, with two others wounded.
