Following through with its policy to respond to any provocation, the IDF destroyed a Hamas target following Palestinian cross-border fire.

An IDF tank shelled and destroyed a Hamas military position in southern Gaza on Sunday shortly after Palestinian terrorists in Gaza fired at an IDF unit situated at the border fence.

The unit was operating to repair the border fence. There were no injuries, but an IDF vehicle was damaged by the gunfire.

The IDF views the Hamas terror organization as bearing sole responsibility for all incidents emanating from the Gaza Strip.

The border with Gaza has been fairly quiet in recent months. The last cross-border shooting incident occurred in mid-December.
