An IDF tank early Wednesday fired shells at a terrorist cell that was operating on the security fence on the border with Gaza.
The IDF stated that troops identified five suspects, at least one of which was armed, approaching the security fence in the southern Gaza Strip. In response, the troops fired towards the suspects.
Palestinian sources reported that a least three of the terrorists were hit by the shells.
The cell may have been operating to place an explosive charge, later to be detonated against IDF forces on patrol in the area. Several such incidents have occurred recently.
This incident came just hours after an IDF tank fired rounds at a Hamas post on the border with Gaza in response to gunfire directed at IDF forces stationed on the border.
These latest incidents came amid the daily violence on the Israel-Gaza border, orchestrated by Hamas, the Islamic terror group that rules the Strip and calls for Israel’s destruction.
Hamas has organized a series of protests at the border under the “March of Return” banner, which the terrorist group says will continue until May 15, the 70th anniversary of the State of Israel, which the Palestinians observe as Nakba Day, meaning Day of Catastrophe.
Some 30 Palestinians, mostly terrorists, have been killed in over two weeks of clashes on the Gaza border.
