An IDF officer was accidentally shot and killed during a training exercise.
An IDF officer was accidentally shot and killed by one of his troops in Hebron on Tuesday.
Second Lieutenant David Golovenchich, 22 of Efrat, a platoon commander in the Golani Brigade, conducted an exercise simulating a stabbing terror attack at a checkpoint in the city when he was accidentally shot twice in his chest by one of the troops stationed there.
Medical teams were alerted to the site and fought for his life, but to no avail.
The IDF instituted a commission of inquiry to investigate the incident.
IDF Chief of Staff Gadi Eisenkot also ordered a halt to all exercises on Thursday and a review of safety procedures throughout all units.
Lieutenant Golovenchich is survived by his parents, two brothers and two sisters.
He was posthumously promoted to the rank of lieutenant.
