The IDF released its casualty figures for 2025 on Tuesday, reporting a year marked by sustained combat operations and significant human loss.
According to the data, 151 IDF soldiers serving in regular service, career service, and the reserves were killed over the past year.
The majority of the fatalities occurred during operational activity, with 88 soldiers killed in combat. An additional three soldiers were killed in terror- and enemy-related incidents, 15 died due to illness, and 24 were killed in various accidents.
The accidents included 17 civilian traffic accidents, one military traffic accident, one weapons-related incident, and five other accidents. The IDF reported that no fatalities occurred during training exercises in 2025.
The report also noted 21 cases of suspected suicide that were investigated or remain under investigation, involving 11 conscripted soldiers, nine reservists, and one career soldier.
Head of the IDF Manpower Directorate Brig. Gen. Amir Vadmani described the figures as painful and deeply significant.
“151 fallen IDF soldiers were added this year—a painful and difficult number. Every fallen soldier is an entire world,” Vadmani said. “With them, 151 families have joined the circle of bereavement. We embrace them and are committed to providing the full professional and human support available to us.”
Vadmani said the IDF is continuing to reassess its systems and readiness in response to the prolonged operational strain of recent years.
“We are constantly examining ourselves and preparing in a meaningful way for the coming year, understanding that many soldiers need adjustments to our programs after the heavy burden of the past two years,” he said.
He added that the IDF is expanding efforts to address the long-term effects of the war, including the treatment and rehabilitation of the wounded and enhanced mental health support.
“Suicide prevention officers have been appointed in every IDF unit to fully implement the directorate’s programs and objectives,” Vadmani said, adding that the move reflects the military’s responsibility to safeguard the lives of its soldiers.
The IDF said it will continue to carry out its mission to defend the State of Israel while maintaining a strong commitment to the welfare of its servicemen and women and honoring the memory of those who fell in its defense.
