The IDF attacked a Syrian military position in response to a rocket that hit the Israeli Golan Heights Wednesday night.
Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu, who has repeatedly warned that Israel will not tolerate Syrian shells spilling over the border, was in the area when a projectile from Syria landed in the Golan Heights.
The projectile landed in an open area, causing no injuries or damage.
In response, the IDF attacked a Syrian military position across Israel’s northern border.
According to the IDF, it was likely a spillover from the Syrian Civil War – which has occurred several times in the past.
At the same time, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu happened to be visiting the Golan Heights, celebrating a milestone occasion in the city of Katzrin, situated approximately 10 miles from where the rocket had landed .
“We are here celebrating the 40th anniversary of Katzrin, the capital of the Golan Heights,” he stated. “I said that we will not tolerate spillover and that we will respond to every firing. During my speech shells from the Syrian side landed in our territory and the IDF has already struck back. Whoever attacks us – we will attack him. This is our policy and we will continue with it.”
