Following Hamas’ murder of an IDF reservist, attacks on Israeli troops, and a staged “body discovery” meant to deceive the Red Cross, the IDF said Wednesday that the ceasefire is once again in effect after several rounds of airstrikes on Gaza.
“In accordance with the directive of the political echelon, and following a series of strikes, in which dozens of terror targets and terrorists were struck, the IDF has begun the renewed enforcement of the ceasefire in response to Hamas’ violations,” the military said in a statement.
According to the IDF, 30 senior terrorists were targeted during the strikes, including several holding command positions.
Despite the severity of Hamas’ actions, including attacks on Israeli troops and blatant breaches of the agreement, the military indicated it would now “continue to uphold the ceasefire agreement and respond firmly to any violation of it,” a response many observers are likely to view as restrained in the face of continued provocations.
