With maximum protection for the soldiers and minimum costs, Israel has developed the world’s most advanced wheeled APC.
Israel has revealed its newest war machine – an advanced, wheeled Armored Personnel Carrier (APC), the Eitan.
The Eitan, the IDF’s first wheeled APC, is the world’s most advanced and protected wheeled combat vehicle.
The combat vehicle is an advanced, multi-purpose APC equipped with a multitude of abilities and is prepared for combat mobility in varied and difficult terrain. The Eitan enables fast, strategic mobility for up to 12 soldiers and maximum protection for its passengers.
It is equipped with an active defense system, similar to the Merkava Mark 4 tank, and with additional protection systems.
The most significant advantage of the Eitan is its excellent mobility capabilities across varied terrains and at a speed of 90 kilometers per hour.
“The decision to develop the Eitan was made in light of lessons learned during Operation Protective Edge, and the increased need to replace thousands of the IDF’s veteran M113 APCs with modern tools with maximum protection, tailored to the existing threats in the arena,” said Brig. Gen. Baruch Matzliah, head of the Merkava Tank Administration.
The Merkava Tank Administration at Israel’s Ministry of Defense, in collaboration with the IDF Ground Forces, has begun to conduct trials of the vehicle’s battle readiness.
The IDF has yet to decide how many units it will purchase.
The Eitan was designed with low development and production costs in mind and is cheaper to produce and maintain than any other wheeled APC in the world.
