An IDF soldier was lightly wounded early Monday by gunfire shot across the border with Egypt.
The soldier was on patrol with his unit on the southern border when the soldier was hit. They did not return fire.
The victim was taken for medical treatment at Soroka hospital in Beer Sheva.
The IDF launched an investigation into the incident.
The IDF estimates that the errant fire was a spillover from the Egyptian military’s campaign to stamp out the Islamic State’s presence in the Sinai Peninsula.
The Egyptian army has been waging a months-long bitter campaign to suppress the Islamic insurgency in the region, which threatens Israel’s border as well. Israel has reportedly supported the campaign by sharing intelligence with the Egyptians, and has even reportedly conducted cross-border raids.
