In reaction to rocket attack launched from the Gaza Strip on Thursday, the IDF swiftly reacted by bombing a Hamas position early Friday morning.
No alarm sounded in the Israeli areas around Gaza when the launch occurred around 11:30PM, and no damage – or even the impact site – could be found as of Friday morning by security forces combing the area.
Israel’s reaction was immediate, however, reflecting a policy that requires a response nearly every time Palestinians breach the Jewish state’s ceasefire with Hamas, which was put in place at the end of Israel’s Operation Protective Edge in 2014.
Following this counter-strike, the IDF spokesperson laid the blame for its necessity on the Hamas-run government in Gaza, notwithstanding the fact that the specific terrorist group responsible for the attack had yet to take credit for the launch.
“The IDF sees the Hamas terror group as the sole party responsible for what takes place in the Gaza Strip and for what emanates from it,” the spokesperson said.
The last several weeks have been quiet in terms of rocket strikes from Gaza, although in December, after US President Trump recognized Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, about 28 rockets were fired in nine different attacks.
