Indian embassy advises nationals to leave Iran immediately

The warning follows similar advisories issued by several European governments in recent days.

India has urged its citizens to leave Iran immediately, citing the rapidly evolving security situation and growing regional tensions, according to an official advisory issued Monday by the Indian Embassy in Tehran.

“In view of the evolving situation in Iran, Indian nationals who are currently in Iran are advised to leave Iran by available means of transport, including commercial flights,” the embassy said in the notice dated February 23.

The advisory applies to students, pilgrims, business travelers and tourists currently in the country. Officials also instructed Indian citizens to exercise heightened caution, avoid demonstrations, remain in close contact with embassy officials and closely monitor local media for developments.

The embassy further advised nationals to keep passports and identification documents readily accessible and encouraged those who have not yet registered with diplomatic authorities to do so immediately.

Emergency contact numbers were released alongside the notice as part of efforts to ensure rapid consular coordination if conditions deteriorate.

The warning follows similar advisories issued by several European governments in recent days as fears of escalation across the region continue to grow.

Germany’s embassy in Tehran renewed its call Friday for German citizens to leave Iran, warning that the security situation is “extremely volatile and very tense” and cautioning that military clashes or sudden airspace closures could occur at any time.

German officials also noted that consular assistance inside Iran may be limited under current conditions.

Poland issued an even stronger warning, with Prime Minister Donald Tusk urging Polish nationals to depart immediately.

“Please leave Iran immediately and under no circumstances travel to this country,” Tusk said, warning that “the possibility of a conflict is very real” and that evacuation routes could quickly become unavailable.

The wave of travel advisories comes as diplomatic efforts continue alongside rising military tensions.

U.S. and Iranian negotiators are expected to meet in Geneva later this week to discuss proposals aimed at reviving a nuclear agreement, even as officials acknowledge the diplomatic window may be narrowing.

At the same time, the United States has significantly reinforced its military presence across the Middle East, deploying two aircraft carrier strike groups alongside additional warships and hundreds of aircraft, underscoring growing concern that regional tensions could escalate rapidly.
