Iran fires missiles, drones at US sites in Kuwait; worker injured by falling shrapnel

Similar Iranian strikes were reported in Bahrain, Jordan, Oman and Qatar.

Iran launched explosive drones and ballistic missiles at U.S. facilities in Kuwait, injuring a worker and damaging three northern border posts as Kuwaiti air defenses intercepted the incoming threats.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps targeted a radar site, an ammunition depot and a Patriot air defense system as part of the attack on American facilities.

Tehran also launched three ballistic missiles at a U.S. base in Kuwait’s port area.

No fatalities were reported at military bases in Kuwait. Falling shrapnel injured one worker on a Kuwait Oil Co. drilling platform, while three northern border posts sustained minor material damage.

The attacks were part of a wider Iranian volley following a series of intense U.S. bombings of Iranian coastal cities and maritime assets. Similar Iranian strikes were reported in Bahrain, Jordan, Oman and Qatar.

A series of explosions was later reported around the strategic port city of Bandar Abbas in southern Iran and near Qeshm Island following the attack on the U.S. base in Kuwait.

As the attacks continued, Ali Khadrian, a member of the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, said Tehran intended to manage the Strait of Hormuz independently, regardless of cooperation with other countries.

“Iran will manage the Strait of Hormuz, with or without Oman,” Khadrian said.

The U.S. military said American forces deployed in the region were prepared and ready to act to ensure international freedom of navigation.

In an official statement, the military described Iran’s conduct as “unprovoked aggression” and said the Strait of Hormuz is not under Iranian sovereignty or control.

The U.S. statement directly challenged Tehran’s assertions over management of the strategic waterway as Iranian forces targeted American facilities and other Iranian attacks were reported across the region.
