Iran Says Israel-Saudi relations are ‘stab in the back’ to Muslims

Iran and its proxy Hezbollah are enraged by the reported collaboration between Israel and Saudi Arabia.

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on Monday condemned Saudi Arabia for its reported covert relations with Israel and issued a harsh rebuke of its alleged attempts to seek better relations with the Jewish State.

“Revelation of Saudi government’s relations with Zionist regime was stab in the back of Islamic Ummah [the Muslim nation],” Khamenei tweeted.

In another post, he alleged that “Today, #Saudi government is in hands of unwise people, but close scrutiny shows US hands are behind all these issues.”

Over the past months there have been several reports of secret ties between Israel and several Sunni Muslim countries in the Gulf, and chiefly Saudi Arabia, which leads them.

Israel and the Gulf states share common interests and are both concerned with Iran’s regional belligerent policies and nuclear program, and the advent of Islamic terrorism in the Middle East.

A recent public display of the warming ties between Riyadh and Jerusalem occurred last month when former Saudi general Anwar Eshki visited Jerusalem and met with Israeli officials, including Foreign Ministry Director General Dore Gold and Members of Knesset.

The meeting marked a rare public engagement between countries that have no official relations.

The Saudis subsequently distanced themselves from the event. A Saudi Foreign Ministry official said the visit “does not reflect the views of the Saudi government.”

Hezbollah, Iran’s Shiite proxy in Lebanon, has also expressed displeasure over the Sunni-Jewish warming of ties, with Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah saying on Friday that the reported ties are “currently the worst development in the Arab sphere.”
