Iran launches naval ballistic missile test

A naval ballistic missile test launched by Iran is reported to have destroyed a target at a distance of 250 km.

Iran’s semi-official Tasnim news agency reported on a naval ballistic missile test-launched recently by the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC).

“In a speech on Thursday, Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps Aerospace Force Brigadier General Amir Ali Hajizadeh said the IRGC forces successfully test-fired the Hormuz-2 missile in recent days,” the news agency said on Thursday.

“The naval ballistic missile called Hormuz 2 this week has successfully destroyed a target which was 250 km away,” Tasnim quoted Amir Ali Hajizadeh as saying.

According to Tasnim, the “Hormuz-2” is a naval ballistic missile capable of striking moving targets at sea with high accuracy and in a range of 300 kilometers (180 miles).

The test is likely to receive a response and condemnation from the Trump administration, which had put “Iran on notice” for its “destabilizing behavior across the Middle East.”
