The IDF is gearing up for a possible terror infiltration from the north, carried out by Iranian proxy groups.

Iran is preparing to launch attacks on Israel via its proxy groups in southern Syria, according to an Israeli intelligence source.
The Israeli military and intelligence services are on high alert for a possible ground invasion-style assault, which could include terrorist attacks on civilian communities in the Golan Heights, the source told Arabic-language outlet Al Arabiya.
Israeli forces recently detained members of terror cells operating in southern Syria on behalf of the IRGC’s Quds Force, Al-Arabiya reported.
The deployment of Israeli troops inside Syria remains a major obstacle in the ongoing talks over a potential normalization agreement between Jerusalem and Damascus, the source said.
Syria is demanding the immediate withdrawal of IDF forces from its territory. However, Israel has refused, citing security concerns and the threat posed by Iranian-backed militias.
Israel has made clear that it will not tolerate an Iranian military presence along its northern border.
According to Hebrew-language outlet Mako, the IDF has established nine military outposts inside Syrian territory.
More than 1,000 emergency response personnel are stationed in Golan Heights communities, prepared for a possible cross-border terrorist infiltration.
These squads, made up primarily of former IDF combat soldiers, are armed and trained by the military.
Following the ouster of longtime Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in December 2024, Israel moved troops into Syria.
Interim Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa — also known by his nom de guerre, Mohammad al-Julani — has signaled interest in normalizing ties with Israel.
“The reality is, [Israel and Syria] have common enemies — and we can play a major role in regional security,” al-Sharaa told the Jewish Journal in June.
However, Israeli officials remain cautious about al-Sharaa, citing his jihadist background and prior affiliations with ISIS-linked militias.
