Iran categorically rejected the U.S. proposal for a ceasefire, which includes a 45-day truce.

Instead, the regime demanded a permanent end to the war and broad regional changes, setting up a possible scenario in which President Donald Trump makes good on his threat to hit Iran hard should it fail to reach a satisfactory deal.

Iran presented Monday a 10-point plan, which, in addition to its demands to end the war permanently, adds another demand to end “conflicts in the region,” likely regarding the current war between Israel and Hezbollah.

The plan also includes demands for war reparations and sanctions relief.

Trump said the plan is “significant” but not “good enough.”

“They made a proposal, and it’s a significant proposal. It’s a significant step. It’s not good enough,” he said at the White House.

With Tuesday’s deadline looming, Trump warned Iran to act quickly.

“It could end very quickly, the war, if they do what they have to do,” he said. “They know that.” Trump also acknowledged the war’s unpopularity, coupled with his determination to see it through.

“If I had my choice, I would take the oil,” he said, but “unfortunately, the American people want to see us come home.” Nevertheless, he added: “We could leave right now, but I want to finish it up.”
