As Tehran stages a massive state funeral for former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, the commander of the IRGC Navy warned that “divine retribution” against the United States and Israel is “not far away,” vowing revenge for the strikes that killed Iran’s longtime leader.
The threat came as Tehran announced plans to begin charging commercial vessels using the Strait of Hormuz once the current 60-day agreement with Washington expires, while offering preferential treatment to countries that backed Iran during the war.
The dual message of retaliation and economic pressure underscores the fragile state of ongoing US-Iran negotiations, with Washington insisting any final agreement must guarantee free navigation through the strategic waterway, which carries roughly 20% of the world’s oil and LNG supplies.
