Three Muslim men were convicted and sentenced to prison by a court in Preston, England, over a plot to massacre Jews in a massive shooting attack in Manchester.
On Friday, the Preston Crown Court sentenced two terrorists to life in prison for their plans to target the Jewish community in Greater Manchester, while a third was sentenced to six years for failing to alert authorities to the terror plot.
The plot was originally conceived in late 2023 by Walid Saadaoui, now 38.
Working with Amar Hussein, 52, the two expressed a desire to carry out terrorist attacks in the name of radical Islam, in particular attacks targeting the Jewish community.
That year, Saadaoui met an undercover police agent online operating under the handle “Farouk.”
“Farouk” convinced Saadaoui that he too was a supporter of radical Islamism, gaining Saadaoui’s confidence.
Saadaoui brought “Farouk” into the plot being advanced in conjunction with Hussein and introduced the two to one another.
Over the next few months, Saadaoui and Hussein made preparations for their planned massacre and sought to import illegal firearms to enable them to carry out a massive shooting attack.
The pair conducted reconnaissance missions to scout out routes for smuggling in the weapons needed for their plot.
During the preparations, Saadaoui discussed his plans with his brother, Bilel Saadaoui, investigators said, revealing his intentions to carry out a large-scale terrorist attack and even mentioning “Farouk.”
Bilel confessed to the court that he had been made aware of the terror plot yet failed to notify police.
In December, the court found all three suspects guilty.
The sentences handed down on Friday included mandatory minimums of 37 years for Walid Saadaoui and 26 years for Hussein.
Bilel is required to perform a year of community service in addition to his six years in prison.
