In a stunning diplomatic breakthrough, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa have agreed to a ceasefire deal brokered with support from the United States and endorsed by regional powers including Turkey, Jordan, and neighboring states.

The announcement came Friday from U.S. Ambassador to Turkey Tom Barrack, who called the agreement a “breakthrough” and confirmed that Secretary of State Marco Rubio played a key role in securing the pact.

“@Netanyahu and Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa @SyPresidency supported by the U.S.A. @SecRubio have agreed to a ceasefire embraced by Turkey , Jordan and its neighbors,” Barrack posted on X (formerly Twitter).

The agreement aims to de-escalate hostilities that have increasingly drawn in regional actors and destabilized border zones in recent months.

As part of the ceasefire, the parties are urging internal Syrian factions—including Druze, Bedouins, and Sunni groups—to lay down their arms and work toward a unified Syrian identity.

“We call upon Druze, Bedouins, and Sunnis to put down their weapons and together with other minorities build a new and united Syrian identity in peace and prosperity with its neighbors,” Barrack added in his statement.

While details of the deal remain limited, the diplomatic overture is being hailed by observers as a rare moment of alignment in a fractured region, and one that could potentially reshape the future of Syrian-Israeli relations.

The White House has not yet issued a formal statement, though a senior administration official confirmed to Jewish Breaking News that President Trump was briefed earlier in the day and expressed support for the effort.

The international community is now watching closely to see whether the agreement will hold—and whether deeply entrenched militias and foreign fighters in Syria will respect the ceasefire terms.
