Israel arrested a female Palestinian lawmaker for security offenses and connections to terrorism.
Israeli security forces have arrested Khalida Jarrar, a female Palestinian lawmaker, for security offenses and terrorist connections.
The Shin Bet (Israel’s Security Agency) said Jarrar, a deputy at the Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC), was arrested Sunday along with another female Palestinian near the PA capital of Ramallah for “promoting terror activities.” The Shin Bet did not elaborate.
Her husband Ghassan said forces seized computers in Sunday’s raid.
Jarrar, 55, is a popular figure among Palestinians, known for fiery speeches against Israel. In 2015, Israel sentenced her to 15 months for incitement to violence.
Jarrar is a senior member of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), a left-leaning faction opposed to peace with Israel and committed to terrorism.
The IDF stated that Jarrar was detained for her activities within PFLP and that her detention was not related to her post as member of the PLC.
The second arrestee is also a PFLP member.
Thirteen Palestinian lawmakers are currently imprisoned in Israel.
In related news, IDF forces conducted counter-terror raids throughout Judea and Samaria overnight Saturday. They arrested nine Palestinians wanted in connection with terrorism and acts of violence.
